By the end of the night, her neighbors were asking for my business card. That idea lingered, but it wasn’t until planning my own wedding—efficiently, creatively, and cost-effectively—that I knew I had to turn my design creativity, knack for event planning, and love of a bargain into a way to help others.

I’m Bernadette M. Martinez, the heart and mind behind Bootleg Bougie Events. With a B.A. in Legal Studies from UCF and an MFA in Creative Writing from Full Sail University, storytelling is my specialty—whether it’s on the page or through an event. My background in teaching means I know how to get creative and make magic happen, even on a budget.
Originally from Chicago, I’ve lived in Orlando, South Korea, Grand Junction, and now Denver. I met my husband, James, while teaching in South Korea. Together we share a love of travel, movies, and celebrating every occasion possible.
